Detailed information regarding our appointment policy
Your Office Appointment
Please bring to your appointment the following:
- The actual x-ray films (MRI, CT or plain film) taken as well as the x-ray report relating to your visit with us. You should ask for your x-rays at the time you are having your procedure. Most of the time, the x-rays are provided on a CD.
- Specific test results (EMG, etc) relating to your visit.
- Referring doctor’s records or office notes and/or ER sheet.
- Your current medications.
- All Insurance cards/information.
- Plan to pay your co-pay or deductible at each visit.
- Picture ID including military ID if Tricare.
If you have a medical problem that needs immediate attention, please describe your problem to us in detail so we may contact the physician. An immediate visit may be scheduled or you may be advised to proceed directly to the Emergency Room. The ER will evaluate you and contact one of our physicians, physician assistants or nurse practitioners of your status.
Your appointment may be subject to change due to an emergency or prolonged surgery. We certainly strive to schedule your appointment at times the physician should be in the office. Unfortunately, the physician nor the office staff can always accurately predict delays or emergency care. Our physicians make every effort to see the patients on the days they are scheduled.
We are the only neurosurgeons in Columbus, Georgia and, the surrounding area (75 miles), that take emergency and trauma calls. Our neurosurgeons feel the need to be available to the community and, as a result, have privileges at all Columbus hospitals. Midtown Hospital, formerly The Medical Center, is the only Level II Trauma Hospital within one hundred miles. To be a Level II Trauma Hospital, you are required to have neurosurgeons on staff 24/7/365. Neurosurgery is a speciality that has a national shortage of physicians. As a result, many smaller communities and hospitals do not have neurosurgery coverage. Therefore, our physicians are contacted and immediate life threatening patients are transferred to a Columbus, Georgia hospital under our neurosurgical care. Oftentimes, this requires emergency surgery and disrupts the day.
New Patient Office Appointments
New patient office appointments are typically made on a referral basis by your primary care doctor or a doctor currently treating you. We do see some self-referral patients with insurance that does not require a referral. Generally, we try to see new patients timely and within a few days of the referral when possible. In critical situations, we will make every effort to see a new patient as soon as possible. We realize by the time the patient decides it is necessary to see a neurosurgeon, they have had a catastrophic injury or accident and may have dealt with pain for some time and often need a timely appointment for medical evaluation. We will do everything we can to be accommodating.
Missed Appointment Policy
If you are not able to make your appointment, please contact us within 24 hours of your appointment time to reschedule. If you miss an appointment without contacting us within that 24-hour period, there will be a $50 fee charged to you for the missed appointment. Thank you for your help.
