About

Marc S. Goldman, MD, FAANS

Dr. Marc Goldman is a native of Columbus, Georgia. He attended Hardaway High School where he graduated Class Valedictorian and he received the city-wide Page One Award for Music. He attended North Texas State University where he studied as a jazz music major and he then returned to the University of Georgia graduating Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree. He pursued his medical education at Emory University School of Medicine where he received his medical degree in 1988. After completing a medical mission in Maua, Kenya, Dr. Goldman began his General Surgery Internship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. He completed his residency training in Neurosurgery and a Spine Surgery Fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in 1994. Dr. Goldman then became Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurosurgery and Surgeon–in-Charge of Spine Surgery at Brown University School of Medicine/Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. He returned home in the spring of 1995 to establish this neurosurgery practice.

Dr. Goldman has authored many published scientific research articles. He serves as Faculty and Clinical Professor at the Martin Army Community Hospital, Clinical Assistant Professor in Neurosurgery at the Medical College of Georgia – Southwest Campus, and the Columbus Regional Family Practice Residency program.

Dr. Goldman is American Board Certified in Neurological Surgery and he maintains continued medical education training above and beyond board requirements. He performs surgery at Midtown Medical Center, Northside Hospital, and outpatient surgery at The Surgery Center. He treats almost all surgical disorders of the brain and spine. Additionally, Dr. Goldman is a member of the Trauma Team at Columbus Regional Midtown Hospital and is committed to providing around-the-clock emergency neurosurgical care to this community and region.

Dr. Goldman is a devoted family man. He enjoys spending quality time with his wife and three children. His hobbies include tennis, running, boating, water sports as well as traveling, fine dining, and music.

Shahin Etebar, MD, FAANS

Dr. Shahin Etebar is a Neurosurgery Specialist in Columbus, Georgia. He graduated with honors from the University Of California, Irvine, California College Of Medicine in 1990. Having more than 32 years of diverse experience, especially in NEUROSURGERY,

Dr. Etebar is an experienced Neurosurgeon with a demonstrated history of working in the medical practice industry. He is skilled in Spine and Neurological Surgery, Aerospace Medicine, Critical Care, Healthcare Management, and Leadership. Strong healthcare services professional with Post Graduate training focused on Flight Medicine and Reconstructive Spine Surgery.

Dr. Shahin Etebar is affiliated with many hospitals including Piedmont Midtown Medical Center, Piedmont Northside Medical Center, and The Surgery Center in Columbus. Dr. Etebar also cooperates with many other doctors and specialists in the medical group Southeast Brain And Spine Surgery,

Brian Russell, MD, FAANS

Dr. Brian Russell is a board-certified Neurosurgeon who has been caring for patients for over 30 years. Prior to joining our practice, he was in Springfield, Illinois, where he served as Chairman of Neurosurgery at St. Johns’ Hospital and Memorial Medical Center and was most recently the Director of Neurosurgery for HCA Florida Capital Hospital.

Dr. Russell is a member of the American College of Surgeons, Congress of Neurosurgery, and American Association of Neurological Surgeons.

Dr. Russell provides the highest level of surgical care to patients with brain, spine, and peripheral nerve disorders. He performs surgery at Piedmont Midtown Medical Center, Piedmont Northside Hospital, and The Surgery Center.

Joseph William Clemmons, PA-C

Bill Clemmons is a highly trained and skilled physician assistant in the surgical treatment of the brain and spine. Bill attended Wichita State University’s Physician Assistant Program, Wichita, Kansas, and was an Honor Graduate. Bill has extensive work experience as a surgical physician assistant for disorders of the spine and brain. Prior to his physician assistant training, Bill was in the U.S. Army and served as an Instructor/Shooter for the Army Marksmanship Unit at Fort Benning, GA. He is certified by the National Commission of Physician Assistants.

Frank Killingsworth joined the practice with many years of experience in spine and vascular surgery.  He graduated from Columbus State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology prior to attending Liberty University and the University of Alabama at Birmingham where he completed his training as a Surgical Physician’s Assistant.

OFFICE STAFF

Our neurosurgical office staff works as a team and are dedicated to assisting you and your family. Each member of our staff has defined job responsibilities as well as the responsibility to provide each other and our patients with assistance and support to assure each patient and family has a positive experience in our office. Our staff is well trained and are truly dedicated to the medical field in helping to care for others. We make a concerted effort to employ and retain staff committed to exceptional healthcare.  Our staff has an overwhelming number of years of experience and training. We realize obtaining neurosurgery care and possibly surgery can be a challenging experience and we want to be a resource for you. At the end of each visit to the office, we do ask for your feedback by providing you with a survey at check-in that you may complete and place in a locked box at check-out. Please take the time to do this survey. These are reviewed by management and discussed with the staff on a weekly basis. This survey helps us improve our services from your perspective rather than only thru ours.

Please utilize our staff to assist you as necessary. The questions you have are always welcome as well as any items of concern or anxiety you may experience. Our goal is to assist the physicians in providing exceptional neurosurgical care to you and make this process as pleasant and smooth as possible.

Front Office Assistants

Our Front Office Assistants are usually your initial contact when calling or presenting to the office. They primarily answer the phones, schedule your office appointments, check you in upon arrival, check you out, and complete medical records request.

Medical Assistants

Our Medical Assistants, or Nurses, work directly with the physicians and the physician assistants/nurse practitioners in the office seeing patients. They will call you prior to your first appointment and complete your medical history. They are the employees that call you from the waiting room to an exam room. If you call our office with medical questions, refill needs, work excuses or releases and medical forms completed, you would talk to the Medical Assistants. Each physician has a specific clinical staff assistant being a Nurse or Medical Assistant.

Administrative Assistants

Our Administrative Assistants work specifically for each physician. They schedule surgery and tests, perform your pre-cert for surgery and schedule your pre-op appointments at the hospital, meet with you for a pre-op in our office to discuss the surgery and obtain signed authorizations from you. If you have questions about your surgery, scheduled tests or pre-certification, please ask the Administrative Assistant.

Insurance & Billing Staff

We have an Insurance Department responsible for obtaining payment for the services provided by our physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners. They are the resource for patients in the filing of accurate insurance claims, discussing with the patient insurance payments and explanations of benefits for services, collecting on outstanding balances as well posting mail in payments on accounts. Our insurance employees bring a wealth of knowledge, experience and resources for the benefit of our patients and practice.
